Few car names have lasted as long as Corolla. Toyota launched the first one in Japan in 1966, and six decades later it remains one of the most familiar cars on the road. Many families can tell a Corolla story: a first car, a reliable commuter or the sedan that carried the kids to school for years. For 2027, Toyota marks the milestone with a limited 60th Anniversary Special Edition and updates...
Toyota offers two very capable pickups for 2026: the mid-size Tacoma and the full-size Tundra. Both are built on Toyota’s tough TNGA-F truck platform, both offer gas and i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrains, and both come ready to work through the cold months with four-wheel drive.
The right choice comes down to size, towing needs and how you use your truck day to day. This guide compares the 2026 Tacoma and 2026 Tundra side by side, so you can see which Toyota pickup fits your work, your family and your winter routine.

Size and Everyday Driving
The Tacoma is the easier truck to live with in tight spaces. A Tacoma Double Cab with a 5-ft bed measures 5,411 mm long, and the 6-ft bed version measures 5,744 mm. That makes it simpler to park downtown, fit in a garage or squeeze into a busy parking lot after a snowfall.
The Tundra is bigger in every way. A CrewMax with the regular bed measures 5,932 mm long, and long-bed versions stretch to 6,237 mm. In return, you get a roomier cabin and a bigger bed. CrewMax models offer 1,057 mm (41.6 in) of rear legroom, a big plus for adult passengers.
Power and Towing
If you tow a large camper, a boat or heavy equipment, the Tundra is the clear choice. Its i-FORCE 3.4 L twin-turbo V6 makes up to 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque on most 4x4 grades. The i-FORCE MAX hybrid raises that to 437 hp and 583 lb-ft. Select 4WD configurations are rated to tow more than 11,000 lbs.
The Tacoma brings plenty of muscle too. Its gas engine makes up to 278 hp and 317 lb-ft, and the i-FORCE MAX hybrid makes 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. Select gas models are rated to tow 6,400 lbs (2,903 kg), a strong figure for a mid-size pickup.
- Tacoma: Up to 465 lb-ft and 6,400 lbs (2,903 kg) of towing
- Tundra: Up to 583 lb-ft and over 11,000 lbs of towing
Winter Traction
Both trucks are ready for snow. Every 2026 Tacoma sold in Canada has four-wheel drive. Most use part-time 4WD, and the i-FORCE MAX Limited uses full-time 4WD.
Tundra 4x4 models use on-demand four-wheel drive. They also offer strong ground clearance, with select 4WD models measuring 277 mm to 282 mm. That helps when the plow leaves a high bank at the end of the driveway.
Both trucks benefit from a set of winter tires. Four-wheel drive helps you get moving, and winter tires help you stop and steer on cold roads.
Comfort and Technology
Every 2026 Tacoma and Tundra comes with Toyota Multimedia and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Tacoma includes Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 as standard, while the Tundra includes Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. Both trucks offer 14-inch touchscreens on upper grades.
Upper grades of both trucks add heated and ventilated front seats. Every Tundra includes a windshield wiper de-icer, and the Tundra’s bed is made from a high-strength sheet-moulded compound that helps resist dents, dings and rust.
Which Toyota Pickup Is Right for You?
Choose the 2026 Tacoma if you want a capable 4WD truck that is easy to park and manoeuvre, you tow moderate loads and you value a mid-size footprint for daily driving. It is also the pick if you want a six-speed manual.
Choose the 2026 Tundra if you tow heavy loads, carry adult passengers in the back seat often or need the biggest bed and cabin. It is built for drivers who need full-size capability every day.
Both trucks bring Toyota’s reputation for durability, which matters when the weather turns harsh.
