60 Years of the Toyota Corolla: What the 2027 Model Year Brings

Few car names have lasted as long as Corolla. Toyota launched the first one in Japan in 1966, and six decades later it remains one of the most familiar cars on the road. Many families can tell a Corolla story: a first car, a reliable commuter or the sedan that carried the kids to school for years.

For 2027, Toyota marks the milestone with a limited 60th Anniversary Special Edition and updates across the lineup. Below, we answer the most common questions about what the 2027 model year brings.

What Is the 60th Anniversary Special Edition?

It is a commemorative version of the Corolla built to celebrate six decades of the nameplate. Toyota based it on the SE Hybrid grade, so it uses the efficient hybrid powertrain with sporty styling.

The Special Edition stands out with exclusive design touches inside and out. Toyota designed it to honour Corolla’s past while looking ahead with modern hybrid technology.

How Many Will Come to Canada?

Toyota will build just 250 units of the 60th Anniversary Special Edition for Canada. That makes it one of the rarer Corollas you will see on Canadian roads.

When Will It Arrive?

The Special Edition is expected to arrive at Toyota dealerships in Canada in early 2027.

The rest of the 2027 Corolla family began arriving at Toyota dealers across Canada this fall.

What Colours Can You Choose?

Special Edition buyers will pick from two exterior colours. Classic White offers a clean, timeless look. Supersonic Red is a vibrant shade offered only on the Special Edition.

Across the rest of the lineup, the 2027 Corolla and Corolla Hatchback gain a new rich black called Ink. It joins Blueprint, Wind Chill Pearl, White, Ruby Flare Pearl, Underground, Classic Silver Metallic and Celestite. The XSE also offers two-tone combinations.

What Powertrains Does the 2027 Corolla Offer?

The 2027 Corolla lineup gives buyers two ways to go:

  • Gas: A 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine with 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque, rated at up to 6.7 L/100 km combined (L grade). Offered in L, LE, LE Upgrade, SE, SE Upgrade and XSE grades.
  • Hybrid: Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system with a 1.8 L 4-cylinder engine and a net 138 hp, rated at up to 4.7 L/100 km combined (Hybrid LE). Offered in Hybrid LE, Hybrid SE, Hybrid XSE and the Special Edition.

Is All-Wheel Drive Available?

Yes. Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive is available on the Hybrid LE and standard on the Hybrid SE and Hybrid XSE. For drivers who face snowy winters, that added traction is a welcome option in a compact car.

What Safety Tech Comes Standard?

Every 2027 Corolla includes Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. It features Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert is standard on every grade too.

What About Screens and Connectivity?

An 8-inch Toyota Multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes standard. The XSE grades and the Special Edition move up to a 10.5-inch screen. A 7-inch digital gauge cluster is standard, while a 12.3-inch cluster comes on the gas XSE, Hybrid SE grades and the Special Edition.

Five-year trials of Safety Connect and Service Connect are included, and Remote Connect is offered with a five-year trial on select grades.
