2025 GR Corolla: 8-Speed Automatic Transmission Joins the Lineup

Toyota has announced important updates to its high-performance GR Corolla for the 2025 model year, including the addition of an automatic transmission option and increased engine torque. The new model will start at $47,915 in Canada.

The headline feature is the all-new 8-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT) with paddle shifters, available alongside the existing 6-speed manual. This new transmission option aims to broaden the GR Corolla's appeal while maintaining its performance credentials.

Under the hood, the turbocharged 1.6-litre 3-cylinder engine now produces 295 lb-ft of torque, up from 273 lb-ft in the previous model. The 300 horsepower output remains unchanged. To complement the power increase, Toyota has made suspension enhancements for improved cornering stability.

Exterior changes include a redesigned front bumper for better cooling and aerodynamics. The GR Corolla continues to be built on Toyota's TNGA-C platform, featuring a low centre of gravity and wide 235/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.

Inside, drivers will find an 8-inch touchscreen running Toyota's latest multimedia system, along with an 8-inch digital gauge cluster. The infotainment setup includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as various connected services.

Safety features are comprehensive, with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 coming standard across all trim levels. This suite includes advanced driver aids such as Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist.

The 2025 GR Corolla will be offered in three grades: Core (manual transmission), Premium (manual transmission), and Premium with DAT. The Core model starts at $47,915, while the Premium manual and Premium DAT are priced at $55,917 and $58,137, respectively.

Toyota expects the 2025 GR Corolla to arrive at Canadian dealerships this fall. With its enhanced performance, new transmission option, and updated features, the latest GR Corolla aims to solidify its position in the competitive hot hatch market.
