The Toyota Corolla has been one of the most popular cars in automotive history. It has sold in the tens of millions over the years, it’s done work as everything from a taxi cab to a driving instructor’s car and as a family mover in countless Canadian households. That’s not to say there aren’t ways to get better, however, and the new 2023 Toyota Corolla is the perfect example. Improved with a range of new features including enhanced connectivity and performance with a new AWD system, the Corolla is better than ever. Let's take a look at how the new Corolla shines.
Multiple Toyota Corolla Hybrid models with AWD
A total of four Hybrid trims are available for the 2023 Toyota Corolla, with three new trims joining last year’s LE FWD model: LE AWD, SE AWD and XSE AWD.
Yes, you read that correctly; all three new Corolla Hybrid trims now get AWD, marking the first time the Corolla Hybrid has received all-wheel drive. And it is techy; instead of a driveshaft to the rear wheels, there’s an EV motor powering the rear wheels, enhancing cornering stability and reducing rear wheel slippage. Now you can enjoy the efficiency of the Corolla Hybrid in any weather, all year long.
A new, sportier design
Depending on trim, the 2023 Corolla gets a number of stylistic changes to differentiate from last year's model. There are redesigned LED headlights on SE and XSE grades as well as a new rear diffuser and graphite coloured 18” wheels, a new rear bumper design on the LE, as well as some new colours for both the sedan and hatchback models.
Next-gen multimedia
An 8” infotainment display now comes as standard on all Corolla models, and it acts as the centerpiece for an all-new system that can receive over-the-air updates.
It also allows for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as optional Toyota Connected Services that can help you find points of interest, cloud navigation that updates live to help you avoid traffic ahead as well as a Toyota Intelligent Assistant who will respond to a number of commands via the “Hey Toyota” command. Your assistant can help you find the nearest deli or gas station, while the Safety Connect app can notify Toyota automatically when an accident occurs.
Safety Sense 3.0
The latest version of Toyota’s Safety Sense suite of driver aids provides lane-centering assist, can read road signs, offers adaptive radar cruise control and can activate automatic high beams.
Lastly, the new 2023 Corolla gets a more powerful engine in the base LE trim. Gone is the previous 139-horsepower base engine, replaced by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder offered previously in higher-trim Corolla models that delivers 169 horsepower.
